There’s been a lot of buzz lately about Online Decorating (a.k.a. e-decorating).
It’s actually a great idea to streamline a tedious, time consuming interior decorating process just by using email, telephone and a digital camera and having your favorite designer located on the other side of the globe to handle the project and come up with a brilliant plan for your new room.
It looked like the next big thing in Interior Design and almost everybody in the Industry suddenly jumped into it.
E-decorating pages have been showing up on a lot of blogs and websites in the last few years.
Still, as sad as this is, It doesn’t seem to really work.
A few early starters are already out of business and several follower’s stagnant websites haven’t been updated for months.
That’s not a good sign of current vital activity.
The main reason of this large scale failure is probably due to the fact that interior designers have a natural talent for interior design not for internet marketing.
Most of them have barely an idea of what it takes to actually make some online sales.
Still, there’s a bunch of websites that seem to be in a pretty good shape.
To name just a few, there’s Betsy Burnham’s Instant Space, Inspired Room Design at Dwelement or Alicia Wicker Design Co. at e-decorating.com.
I was particularly impressed by Sasha Stricker’s DecorateITonline who’s really taking a fresh new approach to online decorating.

E-Decorating is cool and it’s here to stay…….
Are today’s “survivors” tomorrow’s take all winners?
